The French-language Methodical Encyclopedia by Order of Subject Matter of 1782 defines a menagerie as an ‘establishment of luxury and curiosity.’
The Royal Menagerie reimagines the glamour of the 1970s with an opulent and nostalgic collection of textiles and wallpapers, intertwined with the legacy of a musical icon.
“I think that you can go as exuberant and playful as you like, or you can lean into the clean liquid luxury of the plains within the collection.” - Catherine Martin
"Elvis loved monkeys, he did at one point have a chimp named Scatter and you'll see in the décor of Graceland little porcelain monkeys." - Catherine Martin
Illustrating the glamour of Elvis’s rock and roll lifestyle are plush, richly coloured patterned velvets, animal prints, an exquisite embroidery, and densely pattern wallpapers.
Tropically scented palm greens, deep teals, whisky tinged blush pinks, and burnished gold are set into a base of refined neutrals, constructing a rich, heady colour palette.
The peacock was a talisman of good fortune for Elvis. He had an elaborately embroidered peacock jumpsuit made for his Vegas residency and bespoke stained glass windows at Graceland.
